        1. Is my septic system sensitive to household products?Yes. Your septic system is a living organism. If a substance is harmful for you to ingest, it is also toxic to your system

        2. What items should I avoid flushing down the toilet?Do not flush: Wipes (even those labeled “safe for septic tanks”), Condoms, Feminine hygiene products. Only toilet paper should be flushed, and it should break apart easily if shaken in a jar

        3. Can I use my sink or garbage disposal for food waste?No. Sinks and garbage disposals are not trash cans. Scraps, food waste, and oils should be discarded with solid waste. Ideally, only waste that has passed through your digestive system should reach the septic tank

        4. How should I handle laundry?Do laundry daily as needed. Avoid saving multiple loads for the weekend, as this overloads the system

        5. What cleaning products and detergents are safe?Always use products labeled safe for septic tanks. Avoid liquid fabric softener, which can clog the drainfield and cause premature system failure

        6. How often should my septic tank be pumped?Every 2–3 years, or as recommended by a professional or maintenance entity

        7. Are additives necessary for my septic system?No. Additives are not required. If you choose to use one, ensure it is on the state-approved list and consult a professional for guidance

        8. Should I inform my septic professional about medical treatments in my household?Yes. Notify your maintenance entity if someone in the household is: undergoing chemotherapy, on long-term antibiotic therapy, a recipient of an organ transplant

        9. What should I do if I have plumbing leaks?Leaks must be fixed immediately. Turn off the water source to the leaking fixture when not in use until it is repaired

        10. Do I need a water meter for my system?If you are on a private water source or well, a water meter may be required to retain your warranty

        11. What should I do if my septic system alarm goes off?If you have an audio-visual alarm: Contact your professional immediately. Do not reset, silence, or unplug the alarm, as this can worsen the situation

        12. How is an Aerobic Treatment Unit (ATU) maintained?If you have an ATU: Report alarms to your maintenance entity immediately. A technician will service your system semiannually or quarterly. Issues will be reported to you and the local health department as required by F.A.C. 62-6

        13. Can water treatment system purge cycles enter the home plumbing?No. Any purge cycle from a water treatment system must be discharged so it does not flow into the home’s internal plumbing
